Eastside Tucson's Favorite Learning Center

Discovery Learning Center is a warm welcoming environment designed for infants through school aged children. It was purchased in 1979, by Roy and Joan Mills who moved from the East coast where they operated a preschool for 10 years after Joan taught grades K-4th grade in the public schools. They started the Thornydale location in 1984. Now it has a different owner and though it has the same name, the Mills are no longer involved with that Discovery.

You will find ample parking at Discovery Learning Center. At the entrance you will also find covered storage for car seats and strollers. Our ducks that are dressed for the holidays or different seasons, welcome you each morning.

As you begin you tour of our center, through the front gate, you will notice many of our animal friends similar to Dino, the dinosaur out front. The most popular are Mzee, the tortoise, and Owen the hippopotamos. These characters are in the books of our school library. More animal friends can be found throughout the school.

Two of our three playgrounds have special fall-safety carpet trucked in from the White Mountains. This mulch not only cushions falls, but when fresh smells "so wonderful".

On our largest shaded playground, there is room for bike riding, swinging, playing ball and climbing on our "state of the art" climbing equipment. We have interest centers, water tables and a large sandbox. There is also a western looking group of buildings used for storage of outdoor and indoor equipment.

Our shaded Toddler playground has a merry-go-round and climbing equipment. It too has a fall-safety carpet like our large playground. An area is provided for bike riding.

We have recently designed a new shaded playground for our infants so they can go outside everyday. Our infants are able to safely crawl on the safe artificial grass as well as venture into the specially made "Teddy Bear Playhouse" with its own school bell.
